Mayors of Moorhead, Dilworth, Fargo and West Fargo signed a proclamation June 12 at a Lake Agassiz Habitat for Humanity build, 707 17th St. N., Moorhead, designating June as Homeownership Month for each city. This year's theme, "Now is the Time," highlights benefits of homeownership and the opportunity for consumers to take advantage of low interest rates and the stable local economy.

Attendees included respective Mayors: Mark Voxland, Moorhead, Chad Olson, Dilworth, Dennis Walaker, Fargo. Rich Mattern, West Fargo, as well as Lake Agassiz Habitat for Humanity Director Rob Rich and Home Builders Association of F-M President Darrick Guthmiller, Kochmann Brothers Homes, Inc.

The proclamation site in Moorhead will be home to a family of seven, including a veteran with post traumatic stress disorder on Social Security disability insurance. He and his fiancé have five children (three with special needs). They hope to move into the home this fall.

Mattern said, "They are working with Lake Agassiz Habitat for an opportunity to purchase a home so that they can provide their family with a stable and secure environment. They are working toward completing their 250 sweat equity hours as required by Habitat for partner families."

Organizations involved in housing such as the F-M Area Association of Realtors, Home Builders Association of Fargo Moorhead, The Village Family Service Center, Habitat for Humanity and local city governments, in cooperation with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, coordinated the event.
