The Midcontinent Foundation, the charitable branch of Midcontinent Communications, donated a $2,400 grant to the West Fargo Fire Department on Tuesday, April 2.

The grant, which was presented to department chief Roy Schatschneider by Midcontinent service manager Dean Berg, was written for the use to purchase a “Cutters Edge” saw. This saw is a specially designed saw that is made for fire department use. With a higher horsepower, as well and the ability to cut through various woods, metal and other material, it will enable firefighters to access structures in a faster manner.

“This tool will greatly enhance our ability to ensure the safety of our community,” Schatschneider said.

The department’s grant is one of 44 charitable donations that will be made by the Midcontinent Foundation throughout North Dakota, South Dakota and Minnesota this spring, with upwards of $70,000 in donations.

Since its founding in 1987, the Midcontinent Foundation has contributed over $3 million to support the work of non-profit organizations throughout their service area. Organizations that serve our communities are encouraged to apply for future grants for special projects, facilities improvements, equipment, and programs.
