Basic and simple -- yet exceptional men's haircutting is the message Jason Gessele wants to send.

Gessele recently took over the former Don's Barber Shop operation at 113 W. Main Avenue.

Rorick retired and moved back to Harvey. Gessele, who was living at Harvey with his family and operating a barber shop there, decided to purchase Rorick's interest and relocate his talents to West Fargo.

Gessele specializes in men's haircuts, regular, military and flattops -- $11 for adults, $10 for kids and $7 for a beard trim.

He is no stranger to hard work, driving semi for ten years after graduating from high school, then opting for barbering in order to be home a little more after his first son was born. Consequently, he attended and graduated from Molar Barber College in Fargo before purchasing a shop in Dickinson.

He eventually took a manufacturing job at Killdeer where his wife passed away from cancer.

He later remarried the daughter of the barber in Harvey and following in his father-in-laws footsteps he continued to operate the shop there for 10 years. With a declining younger customer base, he listened when Rorick walked in and told him he thought it would be a good idea to cut hair in West Fargo. He worked for Don for about two weeks to get to know some of the customers and then took over the shop the beginning of April and it has been going quite well, Gessele said. "Don cut strictly men and did only short hair. I can do just about any type of haircut, short, medium or longer lengths. Business has been really good, the customers have been great and everything is just perfect."

Gessele said he encourages customers to simply stop in anytime, walk-ins are preferred. Hours of operation are 9 a.m. to about 6:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The shop is closed on weekends so he can travel to Harvey and spend time with his family. To compensate for that Gessele said "I will stay open until 6:30 every night so guys can stop in after work and get a haircut before they go home."
