DETROIT LAKES, Minn.—Owners of the Spitfire Bar & Grill in West Fargo are in negotiations to open a second location here in the former Speak Easy restaurant at 1100 N. Shore Drive.

The Detroit Lakes Tribune first reported Wednesday, Feb. 21, that Jack Chivers of Jack Chivers Realty had brokered a sale of the restaurant from Michael Mercil to Tyler Brandt. Chivers said Brandt planned to lease the restaurant to owners of the Spitfire Bar & Grill in West Fargo.

In a press release issued Thursday, Feb. 22, Spitfire's owners confirmed they are "in negotiations to open a new location in the current Speak Easy restaurant building in Detroit Lakes, Minn., in the fall of 2018."

According to Spitfire co-owner Tim Olson, the Detroit Lakes restaurant will be "renovated to offer an upscale casual dining experience to serve their signature 'food with attitude.' "

The original Spitfire opened in 2007 at 1660 13th Ave E. in West Fargo. The menu features wood-fired steak and chicken, spit-roasted chicken and ribs, pastas, wraps, burgers, salads and more. Spitfire also offers year-round catering services.

The restaurant has gained notoriety over the years for winning multiple barbecue contests across the country.

Brandt, a member of the ownership group, said he's excited about the Detroit Lakes location's potential.

"Once we realized that the public boat launch and beach was moving to the west side of the Holiday Inn, making the restaurant very accessible by boat, our ownership group was excited about the location's potential," he said. "We are looking forward to being part of the Detroit Lakes community."
