Vrem benefit Friday at West Fargo VFW
Jeanne Vrem has spent her life taking care of others and now her friends and family want to help her.
On June 5, Vrem was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. The benefit will help with the expenses of seeking treatment outside of the F-M area. Any donations will be used to cover medical bills, travel expenses for the family, and any other needs Vrem may have.
Vrem and her husband, Mark, have spent the past 15 years giving 24-hour care to Jeanne’s mother, Grace. Their duties included transporting Grace to and from all of her appointments, dialysis three times a week for almost five years, constant monitoring of her health and diet needs, and rehabilitation.
Shortly after Grace’s death in September 2014, Jeanne became ill and was diagnosed with gallstones, requiring surgery to remove her gallbladder. After surgery, Jeanne still suffered with pain in her abdomen for months. She lost 50 pounds and suffered from severe depression after being denied the tests she asked for. Though the tumor is inoperable and has spread to her liver, her family still has hope for a recovery.
Lend a Hand, a program of DMF, is providing up to $5,000 of matching funds to provide more help for the family. Online donations may be made to www.dmflendahand.org. Cash/check donations payable to the Jeanne Vrem Benefit Fund may be sent to Gate City Bank, 5012 2nd Ave. N. Fargo ND 58102.
