8th graders take first place award in Lego league championship tournament

The 8th Grade Cheney Middle School Robotics League participated with 29 other teams from North Dakota, Minnesota, and South Dakota in the 2010-11 North Dakota First Lego League Championship Tournament on Feb. 5 in Grand Forks, earning a first place in the Judges' Award.

The competition was separated into four different competitions:  Design Work, Project Presentation, Teamwork, and Robotics Competition with awards in each area and one all-around award.  Cheney Middle School was awarded the Project Presentation Award (Judges' Award), given to the best presentation to explore innovative ways to repair injuries, overcome genetic predispositions, and maximize the body's potential, with the intended purpose of leading happier and healthier lives.

The Cheney Middle School project was called "The Nano Gecko Band-Aid Cold Compress." Members of the first place Chronic Fusion team are: Shaodi Reed, Natasha Gatheridge, Tom Tran, Derek Schreiner, Carly Bauer, Bailey Aanenson, Landon Holmstrom, and Brandon Witt. Eighth grade tech ed. instructor Chad Anderson coached the group.
