Anderson honored with Governor's Choice Award

West Fargo Economic Development Director Dorinda Anderson was among 24 economic development leaders and projects recognized at the 2010 Governor's Choice Awards for Economic Development Banquet held in Bismarck on Dec. 7.

Anderson was named a winner for Outstanding Professional Developer; Becky Leonard of St. John for Outstanding Volunteer Developer; Charlie Bullinger of Bismarck for Outstanding Innovator; Iain Watt of New York City for Outstanding Ambassador; National Information Solutions Cooperative of Mandan for Outstanding Project; and Shane Goettle, Commerce Commissioner, was presented the Visionary Award.

All winners received $1,000 earmarked for an economic development association of their choice. The banquet was held in conjunction with the Economic Development Association of North Dakota's fall meeting in Bismarck.

As economic development director for West Fargo, Anderson connects with new and existing business owners and operators with city officials, helping to pave the way for the growth and expansion in West Fargo. Anderson was recognized for her work this last year recruiting and aiding in the expansion of numerous businesses in West Fargo including the Monsanto soybean crushing plant and the Titan Machinery expansion.

Other nominees for various categories were: Outstanding Professional Developer: Becky Bowen, Common Enterprise Development Corporation; Shari Hanson, Cavalier Area Chamber of Commerce; and Irv Rustad, Lake Agassiz Regional Development Corporation; Outstanding Volunteer Developer: Suzi Sobolik, Dickinson; Claire Vigesaa, Fargo; and Tracy Henningsgard, New Rockford; Outstanding Innovator: Greg and and Susan Kempel of Casselton; Outstanding Project: Storefront Improvement Program, Langdon; Enderlin HEART program, Enderlin; Great River Energy, Underwood; ComDel Innovations, Inc., Wahpeton; City of West Fargo, West Fargo; City of St. John, St. John; Spiritwood Station, Spiritwood; UND Center for Innovation, NBIA Soft Landings International Incubator, Grand Forks; Great Plains Energy Park, Minot; North Country Veterinary Clinic, Cavalier; and McNeilus Steel, Inc., Fargo.
