Annual R.O.S.S. fundraiser benefits military families
The 7th annual R.O.S.S. (Remember Our Serving Soldiers) fundraiser will take place Saturday, March 6, at the West Fargo VFW, once again bringing the community together in a show of support for area people serving in the military as well as their family members.
Coordinating the event are members of the West Fargo VFW Post and a variety of volunteers who annually assist to help make the event successful, with Charley Weible serving as R.O.S.S. program chairperson.
The daylong event will run from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. with a full slate of activities planned for those 21 years of age and older.
Kicking off the activity at 11 a.m. will be a silent auction featuring hundreds of items that will conclude at 7 p.m. Barbecue and chips will be available for purchase over the lunch hour from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Afternoon games will take place from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m., with Bingo from 2 to 3 p.m.
The evening activities will begin at 4:30 p.m. and will feature an "Adopt-a-Unit" Ceremony that will result in the West Fargo VFW Post 7564 formally "adopting" seven North Dakota Army National Guard units, the North Dakota Air National Guard's 119th Wing and the Fargo-based Navy Reserve unit.
This ceremony will be followed by a Memorial Program at 4:45 p.m. in honor of North Dakota service members killed in the war on terrorism.
A steak fry will be served from 5 to 7 p.m. with tickets available at the door for $10. Meat raffles will also be a part of the fun from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
The evening will conclude with music by Carbon Copy at 8:30 p.m.
All funds raised will benefit the military family support groups.
The VFW is located at 308 Sheyenne St. Inquiries about the R.O.S.S. event can be made by calling 282-4728.
