Arctic front ushers in bitter cold, blowing snow
FARGO - A powerful arctic front will usher in bitterly cold wind chills and blowing snow in the Red River Valley today, the National Weather Service said.
Wind chills of 25 to 40 below zero are expected, with air temperatures falling into the teens below zero. Winds will slowly subside this afternoon.
A winter weather advisory is in effect until noon today, while a wind chill advisory will be in effect from noon to 6 p.m.
Northwest winds from 15 to 25 mph are expected to produce blowing and drifting snow this morning, reducing visibility to less than a mile at times, the weather service said.
Friday's forecast calls for a 50 percent chance of snow and a high near 6 degrees with wind chill values as low as 38 below. Snowfall amounting to less than one inch is possible.
High temperatures will remain in the single digits this weekend, with forecasted highs of near 6 degrees on Saturday and near 8 degrees on Sunday.
A warm-up is expected early next week, with forecasted highs near 15 degrees on Monday, near 17 degrees on Tuesday and near 16 degrees on Wednesday, the weather service said.
