Bagan, Herner recognized as outstanding medical student grads

Graduating medical students received awards from the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences on Sunday, May 15.

Michael Bagan, son of Steve Bagan of West Fargo and Glenn and Diana Herner of Mandan, received the Axel and Agnes Kongslie Memorial Scholarship Endowment Award, given to two medical students who have shown excellence in the field of medical research.

Jessica Smith, daughter of James and Mary Payne of West Fargo, received the Department of Surgery Senior Award, given to a medical student who demonstrates excellent capabilities in the specialty of surgery. Smith also received the Altru Clinic Senior Medical Student Fund Award, given to medical students who display excellent scholarship, character, leadership and integrity; in recognition of physicians who have worked for the Altru Health System. She was also was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.
