The West Fargo baseball team looked pretty comfortable at the top of the East Region standings.
Too bad it couldn't last.
The Packers picked up their first losses of the season last week, including a sweep by Fargo Shanley on Monday and a split to Fargo North on Thursday.
With a 4-3 conference record, West Fargo was bumped from first to fifth place in the standings, despite an 11-3 overall record. Fargo Davies currently is No. 1 at 5-0 in the Eastern Dakota Conference and 12-2 overall.
The sweep by Shanley was a close matchup.
In the nightcap, after four scoreless innings, West Fargo and Shanley each tallied a pair of runs in the fifth; a tie that that would push the game to extra innings. Deacon Joe Hallock finally scored the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning.
West Fargo's Landon Uetz had seven strikeouts in the loss.
Willie Barker picked up his first win and shutout of the season after the Packers beat the Spartans 4-0 in second game of Thursday's doubleheader.
West Fargo then continued its streak with two more nonconference wins during a tournament Saturday in Marshall, Minn.
Their biggest challenge of the season so far, however, may have come Tuesday when they faced the Eagles in a home-field doubleheader. Results were unavailable by press time.
The Packers host winless Devils Lake (0-7, 0-8) in a doubleheader Friday at 5 p.m.
