Beautiful yards highlight annual garden tour
A bevy of beautiful West Fargo and North Fargo, yards were spotlighted yesterday (Wednesday, July 16) during the annual Garden Tour sponsored by the Soroptimist International of Fargo, and a variety of South Fargo and South Moorhead gardens will be open for viewing today (Thursday, July 17) from 1 to 7 p.m.
West Fargo gardens on the tour included those of William and Barb Werlinger, 902 Sheyenne St., Howard and Ginger Kalm, 513 7th St., Mark and Connie Weideman, 512 Wellington Court, and Don and Donita Lennon, 1520 Cambridge Dr.
North Fargo gardens included are: Robert and Sheila Nelson, 3108 Peterson Parkway N.E., Bill and Paulette Rastedt, 2942 Peterson Parkway N.E., Tim and Jill Graveline, 1313 Oak St., George and Pauline Economon, 1317 Oak St., Jim and Mary Ann Anderson, 1307 Oak St., and the Botanic Gardens at Yonkers Farm.
Gardens available to tour today are: South Fargo - Richard and Becky Henderson, 2626 Southgate Dr., Richard and LaVonne Rustad, 1449 9th St. S., James Fleeker, 911 S. Univ. (use alley), Lynn and Charlene Jensen, 1020 8th St. S., and extra, Don Larew, 921 8th St. S., (home is 100 years old this year). South Moorhead - Pete and Charlie Hovde, 1322 4th St. S., Skip Wood and Stacy Nickelson, 708 9th St. S., and Kyle and Joni Anderson, 2707 26th St. S. Circle.
Soroptimist International of Fargo is a service club composed of women whose mission is to provide volunteer service to their communities on behalf of women's issues. The club was originally founded in 1921, with the local chapter organized in 1951.
Money raised at the Garden Tour remains in the area. Recipients of donations last year included K.I.D.S. (Lutheran Social Services), Fraser, Inc., Hospice, YWCA, Hope, Red River Child Advocacy, Rape & Abuse Crisis Center, Women Build and Women's Way.
Soroptimist members also donate their time and/or contributions to Fraser, Inc. Prairie Public Broadcasting, Great Plains Food Bank of Lutheran Social Services, MeritCare Festival of Wreaths, Habitat for Humanity-Women Build, Restore and F-M Community Theatre.
The committee welcomes suggestions for yards to be considered for future tours in Fargo, Moorhead, West Fargo and Horace areas. Garden Tour Committee chairpersons for this year's tours are Marlene Daul and Charlotte Luken.
Tickets are $10 for today and are available from any Soroptimist member, at Cash Wise Foods in Fargo and Moorhead, Country Greenery in Fargo and Moorhead, Shotwell Floral (both locations), Baker Nursery, Red River Coffee, Curt's Lock and Key, Holland's Landscaping and Garden Center and Zandbroz's.
