Beauty pageants to highlight Pioneer Days

Bonanzaville will be hosting Jr. Miss, Miss and Mr Bonanzaville pageants in Arthur Hall during their 55th Pioneer Days observance at the West Fargo pioneer village on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 17 and 18.

Starting at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, all three pageants will take place with finalists performing a three-minute talent representing the "Spirit of the American Pioneer" of the Red River Valley. A "Best Talent" winner will also be awarded. Participants also completed a 150-word typed essay on "Why they wanted to be a representative as Miss or Mr. Bonanzaville.

All winners will be featured in the Pioneer Days Parade on Saturday, and Sunday, at 2 p.m. A $100 prize basket will be presented to each winner in each category, as well as for "Best Talent." Winners will have additional opportunities for appearances throughout the year.

A costume contest will also be held on Saturday and Sunday at 1 p. m. in Dawson Hall. All ages are welcome to compete.

The admission to Bonanzaville for this event is $12/adults, $8/seniors, military, and students, and $7/children. Bonanzaville's summer hours for village and museum tours are: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, and 12 to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Bonanzaville is operated by the Cass County Historical Society, with a mission to collect, display and interpret artifacts relevant to the history and cultural heritage of the Red River Valley. It is the region's largest historical attraction with 43 buildings, and more than 400,000 artifacts.
