Belter seeks District 22 House endorsement

District 22 State Representative Wesley Belter has announced he will seek the Republican endorsement for re-election to the North Dakota House of Representatives. Representative Vonnie Pietsch of Casselton who has served as the other Representative from District 22 since 2003 has announced she will not seek re-election. Senator Gary Lee has announced he will seek re-election for the District 22 Senate seat which he has held since 2001. Pete Silbernagel of Casselton has announced he will also seek the Republican endorsement for one of the two House of Representative seats from District 22.

Belter serves as Chairman of the House Finance and Tax committee, and on the House Agriculture Committee. During the legislative interim he is serving on the Finance and Tax committee, and a special committee to study measure 2 which will be voted on by the electorate during the June primary.

Belter was first elected in 1984. He currently serves on two committees that were formed to deal with issues of national importance; and as treasurer on the board of directors for State Agricultural Rural Leaders. The national organization was created so that state legislators from the fifty states can deal with agriculture and energy issues that are important to their individual states and the United States. Belter also serves on a committee organized by the National Council of State Legislators to look at issues dealing with terrorism, formed after the 9-11 attacks.

Belter farms with his son Mark on their fifth generation family farm at Leonard. He is graduate of North Dakota State University; holds a Bachelor of Science and a Masters Degree in Agricultural Economics; and has served in the United States Air Force and North Dakota Air National Guard, retiring in 1998 as a Lieutenant Colonel after 28 years of service. Belter is a member of the North Dakota Farm Bureau, grain commodity groups, National Rifle Association, and the American Legion. He and his wife Judy have three sons, and five grandchildren.

District 22 Republicans will endorse candidates for the 2012 election on March 10 at 10 a.m. at the Casselton City Hall. A number of state wide candidates are also expected to be in attendance including Governor Jack Dalrymple.
