Benefit set for Linda Knutson

A special benefit for Linda Knutson and her family has been scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 3, from 3 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. at the Teamsters Lounge, 21 18th St. S., Fargo. Activities will include a silent auction, chili feed, bake sale and live entertainment. Proceeds from the event will go toward defraying medical expenses related to cancer treatment.

Linda Knutson was diagnosed with Epiglottis cancer in 2005. She received radiation treatment at the Roger Maris Cancer Center in Fargo and overcame the cancer. However, in March 2012, Linda was diagnosed with a second strain of throat cancer. She had surgery on April 11, and the cancer was removed successfully.

Unfortunately, Linda has now been struggling with her recovery. Despite receiving hyperbaric treatment, she is not healing as doctors had expected. Tissue scarring from a large amount of radiation therapy for the initial cancer, has caused many unforeseen complications. This has caused a very significant emotional and financial strain on her as well as her family. Linda worked for Goldmark for 14 years before cancer made it no longer physically possible. She is a loving mother of 3, grandmother of 10, great-grandmother of 3, and wife. Her husband, Doug Knutson, has not been able to work or provide for their family for the last 6 months because he has been by her side every step of the way.

The event will feature raffles, a silent auction and bake sale from 4 to 7 p.m.; a chili feed from 5 to 7 p.m.; and live entertainment from 8 p.m. to midnight. All ages will be able to take part in the activity until 8 p.m. at which time only those age 21 and older will be allowed.

Dakota Medical Foundation Lend a hand program will be providing matching funds up to $5,000. There will be a $5 donation at the door for those attending. Those unable to be there, but who would like to make a donation can do by contributing to the "The Linda Knutson Benefit Fund" at Gate City Bank, 500 2nd Ave. N., Fargo, N.D. 58102. Donations can also be made on the Dakota Medical Foundations website: Click DONATE and enter gift amount next to Linda Knutson.
