Fargo specials vote means tax cuts, refunds for some property owners

Betty Witham, 91, West Fargo, N.D. died on Monday, March 19, 2012 at Eventide Lutheran Home, Moorhead, Minn.

Beatrice Janet Meissner was born on January 25, 1921 at Milaca, Minn. to Frederick and Hattie (Wills) Meissner. The family moved to Barnesville, Minn. where she graduated from high school. She lived in Indianapolis, Indiana for a short time before returning to Barnesville where she worked for the local dentist and doctor. Betty married Donovan Witham on June 26, 1950 at St. James Church in Barnesville. They traveled the United States working for Columbia Artists for 20 years before moving to West Fargo. They established the West Fargo Pioneer in 1967. She served as its co-owner and her specialty was graphic arts before it was known as such. They also operated the Davon Press, Midweek Eagle and Midweek Plus. They sold the businesses in 2005 and retired.

Betty was an avid reader and enjoyed her Daily Word.  She loved classical music, playing the piano, and cats. She also loved flowers and spending time at Pelican Lake. Betty enjoyed being chauffeured around by Don so much that it wasn't until age 65 that she got her driver's license.

She is survived by her husband, Donovan of West Fargo; daughter, Kathy (Brad Brinkman) Chaffee of Glyndon, Minn. and granddaughter, Morgan Brinkman. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Alan (Marion) Meissner and Wayne (Lois) Hagman.

Visitation will be held Thursday, March 22, 2012 from 5 to 7 p.m. at West Funeral Home, West Fargo, N.D.

The Funeral will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at West Funeral Home Chapel, West Fargo, with visitation one hour prior and reception to follow.

Burial will be in Rosemound Cemetery, Barnesville, Minn.
