Big Iron packs them in
Amazingly, the ample rainfall actually helped with attendance figures at Big Iron 2008. The opening day, Tuesday, Sept. 9, ended up being the best day ever seen, and overall, the event the best organizers have ever had, according to Red River Valley Fair and Big Iron General Manager Bryan Schulz. Traditionally, anywhere from 70,000 to 80,000 people take in the three-day event.
One of the larger draws was the new issues and events center sponsored by the Red River Farm Network which hosted a session with U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary Ed Schafer. Schulz said there was a full house for this event, and the new international pavilion also proved to be a big hit.
"I'm very excited and very happy about how everything turned out," Schulz added, commending the staff for their diligent effort in putting Big Iron together and helping make it a success.
The event is a constant turnaround, with plans already set to meet in a couple of months to start working on next year's 29th annual show.
