Members of the Sandhill Archery Club and Sportsman's Warehouse co-sponsored a Bowhunters Shootout in the Agricultural Building at the Red River Valley Fairgrounds on March 28-30. Will Foss, from the F-M Ambassadors, who helped with the 3-day event, estimated that close to 300 people attended throughout the weekend.
Adults and kids alike enjoyed the chance to take aim at the moving targets in the challenging indoor course. The annual event provided an excellent opportunity for families to spend time together, learning archery skills they can use throughout their lifetime.
"Children as young as six and seven years old come out to try to hit the targets. Each child gets a trophy and a gift certificate to Hardee's whether they hit the target or not," Jerry Langness, event coordinator said. "They're just beaming when they go home carrying a trophy, especially if Dad didn't get one, too," Langness commented.
The event included 3-D round and challenge round team shoots with moving targets set in a natural setting.
Also coming up for area archery enthusiasts, the North Dakota Bowhunters Association will host a state archery tournament and banquet on April 4-6 in Williston. The event will include the annual state archery meeting, 25 target 3-D archery shoot, a 600 target round, and the annual awards banquet. Archers from all over the state will be competing in the weekend event.
The Sandhills Archery Club is planning a hunting, fishing and camping expo on June 6-7.
