Boy Scout Troop 279 assists with bell ringing
The Boy Scouts of Troop 279, West Fargo, assisted the Salvation Army with their Bell Ringing Campaign at Sun Mart in West Fargo on Friday, Nov. 27. The troop rotated Scouts throughout the day to cover the entire ten hour shift. Fire Chief Roy Schatschneider, local coordinator, thanked the Scouts for taking on a day which is typically difficult to staff.
Senior Patrol Leader Nick Reitan was the first Scout on duty. Reitan said, "Being able to help in the community is what scouting is about. It's fun to do an event like this where you can meet people. Almost everyone is willing to give."
Boy Scout Jacob Ustanko brought his little brother, Jordan, a Cub Scout, along. Their father Darrin said the bell ringing was something both boys could do to earn advancement in the Scouting program. Ustanko said, "The boys were looking forward to ringing the bell though they expected it to be a much bigger bell."
Troop 279 is sponsored by the Holy Cross Catholic Church and Lutheran Church of the Cross, both of West Fargo.
