Boy Scouts celebrate rank advancement
Boy Scout Troop 279 celebrated rank advancement at a Court of Honor held Jan. 31, at the Crossways Center. The Scouts present at the ceremony received a total of 35 Merit Badges and 15 Rank Badges. The Troop is sponsored by Holy Cross Catholic Church and Lutheran Church of the Cross.
Scouts earning both the Second Class Rank and First Class Rank were: Sam Anderson, Josh Blotsky, James Doyel, Isaac Lepird, Justin Olien and Hunter Pringle. Jacob Ustanko earned the Star Scout Rank. Jacob Fischer and Nick Reitan were recognized for attaining the rank of Eagle Scout.
Merit Badges were given for Camping, Carpentry, Citizenship in the Community, Fingerprinting, Fishing, Pathfinding, Reptile Study, and Tracking.
Northern Sky District Commissioner Mike Lewis of Fargo was on hand to present Scout Master Mike Reitan with a certificate for completion of the Wood Badge of the 21st Century program. Wood Badge is a training course for adult leaders of Scouting designed to teach the ideals of Scouting and further develop the leadership skills of those who attend the training.
