Boys' cross-country takes first, girls second in Grand Forks
The Packers' cross-country teams continued this weekend what they have been doing all season, as the boys team beat all comers with a team score of 51 and the girls took second with a score of 54 at the Grand Forks Invitational meet on Saturday morning.
Senior Darin Baltezore led the Packers again, finishing third in a field of 72 runners with a 5k time of 16:51.
Austin Alrbrecht, Nathan Aswege and Parker Rosenau came in seventh, eighth and 11th, respectively, with times of 17:08, 17:09 and 17:14. Freshman Kody Coles rounded the top five for the Packers, finishing 22nd with a time of 18:13.
The girls' team saw their top five runners within the top 18 of the 73-person field.
They were paced by eighth-grader Jen Dufner, who ran her 4k in 15:45 and placed second.
Christine Baltezore, Suzy Dullum, Brooke Grooters, Alexis Young and Leah Hermanson finished within 18 seconds of each other. They, in order, placed ninth, 11th, 14th, 18th and 20th.
The girls lost to Fargo South, who had four runners in the top 10 and finished with a score of 36.
"Our boys and girls teams ran very well again this weekend," coach Joe Bailey. "On the boys' side, our top five have run very consistently all season, and the girls have tremendous depth, with nine different runners being the top five scorers at different meets."
The teams will head to Wahpeton on Saturday for the east regional tournament.
