Boys swim team take second in EDC championships
The Packer boys swimming and diving team had eight top-4 finishes en route to a second-place team finish at the EDC championship tomournament.
Their 436 points were second only to Fargo North, who ended the weekend with 502.5 points.
“North had a really good meet,” head coach Marsha Dahl said. “They are too strong for most teams, and they have some real horses. Second place is about what expected, so we are pretty pleased with how we did.”
While the team did not finish first in any event, the Pack had four second-place finishes -- along with a pair of third- and fourth-place finishes -- in the weekend’s eight events.
“We have a lot of depth, but we don’t really have the horses to win events,” Dahl said. “The number of top-four finishes we had speaks highly for us. We are a very well-rounded team.”
Of those four second-place finishes for the Packers, junior Carson Keller was a part of the three of them. He ended the 200 individual medley in 2:06.80, and was a part of both the 200 medley relay team -- which took second with a time of 1:43.90 -- and the 400 freestyle relay team that finished in 3:22.89.
The two third-place times came from juniors Matt Montplaisir in the 100 freestyle and Stephen Hulbert in the 100 breaststroke. Both swimmers were also on the two relay teams.
The North Dakota state swim meet begins on Friday at the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks.
“We just want to continue on with what we’ve done,” Dahl said. “We have always done well well at EDC and state. We just want to have one more good meet. We are hoping to hang on and have some good relays.”
