The West Fargo cross country teams trekked about 170 miles this past weekend for a meet at the Eagle Creek Golf Course in Willmar, Minn., where the boys team placed third out of 11 teams with a score of 72 and the girls finished fourth out of 12 with a score of 127.
"Overall we had a very good team effort," Packers' coach Joe Bailey said. "The course was very challenging and rolling with very little flat ground. It will make the rest of our courses seem easy."
Senior Darin Baltezore set the pace for the boys' team once again, finishing in fifth place with a time of 17:14.9. Austin Albrecht and Nathan Aswege were not far behind, with both finishing within 30 seconds of Baltezore and finishing seventh and 11th, respectively.
The girls' team was led by eighth-grader Jen Dufner, who finished 15th out of 99 competitors with a time of 16:02.8.
Christine Baltezore, Brooke Grooters, Suzy Dullum, Alexis Young and Katelyn Ask all finished less than a minute after Dufner.
"Overall, we had a very good team effort," Bailey said. "We had a couple runners miss the meet due to illness, but other runners stepped up and ran great races."
The teams will head to Grand Forks-Red River on Saturday morning for a 10 a.m. meet.
