Brand announces House candidacy
Scott Brand announced that he is running for the North Dakota House of Representatives after receiving the unanimous endorsement of the District 13 Democratic-NPL Party.
Brand, a West Fargo native, is an associate attorney for Brudvik Law Office in Fargo, where he maintains a general practice with an emphasis in criminal defense and litigation. In 2005, Brand joined the Minnesota Army National Guard, and volunteered for deployment to Iraq in 2006 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
In addition to his military service and education, Brand said that his time working in Sen. Byron Dorgan’s Washington, D.C., office will serve him well in the Legislature.
Brand earned his Juris Doctor from the University of North Dakota School of Law in 2012, graduating magna cum laude. In recognition of his contributions as a student to UND and the broader community, Brand was awarded the Lillian Elsinga Outstanding Student Leader Award and the Memorial Union Leadership Scholarship. After graduating law school, Brand worked in Minot as a judicial law clerk with the Northwest Judicial District of North Dakota.
“Working in oil country gave me an intimate understanding of what western North Dakota and the entire state is dealing with when it comes to the oil boom,” Brand said in a statement. “Ensuring our fellow North Dakotans enjoy the benefits of the oil production while maintaining our safe communities, environmental integrity, and responsible development will be one of my top priorities as a legislator.”
Brand is engaged to Courtney Jessiman, who will graduate from the University Of North Dakota School Of Law in May. The couple lives in West Fargo with their 9-month old son, Corbin Jeffrey Brand.
