According to information released by the Fargo District office of the North Dakota Department of Transportation regarding the West Fargo Main Avenue reconstruction project, traffic was set to be removed Monday from the south frontage road on the west end of the work zone. The frontage road stretches from 5th Street East to 9th Street East. Access to the businesses located along this stretch of the corridor will be via 1st Avenue East and the cross street of 8th Street East, where customers can also access these businesses to the south.
Motorists will be unable to access the business driveways located off of Main Avenue during this frontage road removal. New business access points are being constructed for each of the businesses from Main Avenue in this phase of the project work. Direct business driveway access will be restored from Main Avenue between 5th St. E to 9th St. E. in approximately two to three weeks. Detour signage will direct motorists to the access points of these businesses within the work zone.
Also occurring on Monday, traffic on Main Avenue from 5th Street East to 9th Street East was allowed to begin driving on the new roadway surface in this section of the project. Traffic will now be head-to-head with one lane in each direction on the new westbound lanes of Main Avenue.
All other traffic traveling east and west on Main Ave. remains head-to-head one lane in each direction from the intersection of Main Avenue and 45th Street Northwest to 5th Street East.
Motorists need to continue to be aware of workers and equipment in near proximity to traffic throughout the construction area. The speed limit in this work zone is 25 mph.
