Casey's helps MDA send children to summer camp
The Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) and Casey's General Store in Horace are teaming up this summer for the "Make a Muscle, Make a Difference" program, which helps to send children in North Dakota and northwestern Minnesota affected by neuromuscular disease to MDA Summer Camp.
Until Monday, Sept. 2, customers visiting Casey's General Stores can show their support for the MDA by purchasing and signing a $1 or $5 MDA summer camp mobile with their purchases at participating locations across the Midwest. Along with Horace, stores in Moorhead, Dilworth and Fergus Falls are also participating.
"Camp is the best week of the year for our kids and it wouldn't be possible without support from sponsors like Casey's General Stores and all of their generous customers," MDA Executive Director Sue Wiger said. "With their help, we hope to send some very special kids to MDA camp for an unforgettable week. Thirty-five kids from our area had this opportunity in June of 2013."
Families served by the MDA will benefit from every mobile sold, and in return, customers will receive a special "Buy One, Get One Free" free coupon from 7 Up.
The MDA summer camp offers a wide range of activities specially designed for youngsters who have limited mobility or use wheelchairs. Each year, campers have an unmatched opportunity to develop lifelong friendships, share interests and build self-confidence.
It costs roughly $800 to send a child affected by a neuromuscular disease to camp, at no cost to their family. The summer camps also offer a week of respite for campers' parents, who often serve as full-time caregivers for their children.
More than 1,700 Casey's General Store locations across the Midwest hope to collectively raise $1 million for MDA.
