City grants renaissance zone application
West Fargo businesses are making excellent use of the city's Renaissance Zone program with another application being approved by West Fargo City Commissioners at their regularly scheduled Monday night meeting.
The board voted unanimously to approve a Renaissance Zone lease application for Dellan Schmidt who owns Dakota Carpentry, Inc., a wood finishing business that will be a tenant in the new 5,000 square foot building that will house a shop and warehouse, being constructed by Schmidt at 357 11th St. W.
As a result of the approval, the business will benefit from a state income tax exemption.
The commission also approved a resolution authorizing the issuance of improvement warrants and exchanging them for $7,725,000 in refunding improvement bonds.
The issue involves spreading special assessments for eight districts. At a previous meeting, the commission had approved spreading the bonds over a longer time frame of 24 years and this action set those wheels in motion.
The motion Monday night did not include issuing bonds, but to authorize city officials to accept a bond bid if one came in less than 4.9 percent. This could happen as early as next Monday.
Under the consent agenda approval, the commission agreed to designate voting places for each precinct in the 2010 Primary Election. They are: 13-01, Westside Elementary School, 945 7th Ave. W.; 13-02, West Fargo City Hall, 800 4th Ave. E.; 13-03, Veterans Memorial Arena, 1201 7th Ave. E.; 22-10, Shiloh Evangelical Church, 2202 Shiloh St.; and 27-02, Meadow Ridge Bible Chapel, 2198 2nd Ave. E.
The next regularly scheduled meeting of the West Fargo City Commission will take place at 5:30 p.m., Monday, Dec. 21, in the commission chambers at West Fargo City Hall. All meetings are open to the public.
