City hosts tree lighting ceremony
The city of West Fargo staff will be hosting their 8th annual Tree Lighting Ceremony on Monday, Nov. 30, at 6:30 p.m., in front of the City Hall offices at 800 4th Ave. E.
The celebration will begin with a welcome by City Financial Director Sharon Schacher, followed by a greeting from West Fargo Mayor Rich Mattern, the lighting of the tree and the arrival of Santa and the distribution of goody bags for the children, with West Fargo City Commissioners assisting in the process.
A part of the event is a coloring contest involving students in the West Fargo elementary schools. The children will return their colored page including their name, grade and the name of the school they are attending prior to the tree lighting. Mattern will draw out three of the coloring contest names of students who will be awarded prizes, and a fourth, who will assist Mattern with the tree lighting.
Any students not receiving coloring pages in school who would like to participate can do so by picking the coloring pages at City Hall. In order to qualify for the drawing, students must drop off the completed colored pages by 4 p.m. on Nov. 30 at City Hall.
Since the ceremony will be held outdoors, everyone is encouraged to dress warmly. Hot apple cider and cookies will be served.
