Costco making West Fargo debut
The first Costco store in the Dakotas will be opening to customers Tuesday, Oct. 23 at their highly visible and convenient West Fargo location in the southwest quadrant of Interstate 94 and Veterans Boulevard at 750 23rd Ave. E.
The Costco building itself is set back to the west and there is a free standing fuel facility component on the east side of the property.
As an official kick off to the stores first day of business, a special public ribbon cutting conducted by the Fargo, Moorhead, West Fargo Chamber of Commerce will occur at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday in advance of the store's official opening at 8 a.m.
West Fargo Mayor Rich Mattern said he is elated by the imminent activity. "Rarely does an opening of a new store create as much buzz as the Costco store has. People have been talking to me about when it would open since it was announced that Costco was coming to West Fargo. That day is finally here. West Fargo is very proud to be the first city in North Dakota to have a Costco store. I'm certain that Costco will be very successful in West Fargo and eventually will expand to other North Dakota cities."
Costco officials are also excited. "We are thrilled to be bringing Costco's low warehouse prices to the residents of West Fargo," said Warehouse Manager Angela Bauer. "They have been asking us to open here for a long time, and we already have made an impact on the local job market. We look forward to contributing to the community in many ways."
Working off the Costco concept and tradition, the 152,000 square-foot membership warehouse will offer quality, name-brand and private-label merchandise at incredible pricing. Costco helps businesses save money on supplies and on items for resale, and provides a wide range of products and services for personal use as well.
The new location will feature a variety of convenient specialty departments, including a gas station, fresh bakery, meat and produce, as well as a fresh deli with rotisserie chicken, an optical department with independent doctor of optometry, 1-hour photo, a tire center, hearing aid center, food court, and fine wine and liquor.
The West Fargo store marks the 440th Costco warehouse in the U.S. and Puerto Rico, and 610th worldwide.
Mattern said that since the preliminary negotiations and the start of construction last spring, "the Costco people have been great to work with and a lot of credit goes to our city staff for working with the company to make the building project go as seamlessly as possible. Because of Costco and Blackridge Bank, I think we will see retail interest along Veteran's Boulevard start to grow rapidly. We already have many houses being built in the area."
Costco has been recognized throughout the country for providing its employees with real living wages - the highest in the industry - and for its ethical business practices. With its opening, the West Fargo store will employ about 200 people in half, part and full time positions. Once the store is established another will more than likely be needed.
The Costco home office is located in Issaquah, Wash. The other nearest Costco store is in Maple Grove, Minn.
Hours of operation at the West Fargo location will be: Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.; Saturday, 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Sundays 12 to 6 p.m.
