Drivers cautioned to slow down on icy roads this morning

FARGO -- Drivers face snow- and ice-covered roads during the Monday morning commute and are cautioned to lower their speeds.

Another inch of snow is expected to fall today in the Red River Valley, with total snow accumulations since early Sunday expected around 6 inches, according to the National Weather Service in Grand Forks.

Authorities responded to numerous accidents and stranded vehicles overnight and during the weekend in the Fargo-Moorhead area, due to the slick surfaces.

Interstate 94 from Casselton to Fargo and most of Interstate 29 in North Dakota are snow-covered this morning, according to the North Dakota Transportation Department.

Similarly difficult driving conditions exist on I-94 from the North Dakota border through Moorhead, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

Snow drifts are affecting road conditions on Highway 75 South from Moorhead to Comstock, Clay County Sheriff's Deputy Tim Griffin said.

Local and state authorities aren't reporting many incidents yet this morning.

However, a possible injury accident was reported just after 7:45, when a driver apparently lost control and struck the median on I-29 in Fargo between Main and 12th Avenues, according to police radio dispatches.

Drivers are urged to adjust their speeds for the current weather conditions, Griffin said.

Drivers should expect snow, blowing snow and reduced visibility on roadways in Cass County, including Fargo, the NDDOT reported.

Crews are working to clear roadways this morning, but it might take a while to get everything cleaned up after three days of snow, NDDOT maintenance supervisor Bruce Nord told WDAY Radio.

Up to two more inches of snow are possible from Wahpeton to Fergus Falls, according to the weather service.

Blowing snow is not expected in the Red River Valley, although winds will shift to the northeast at 15-25 miles per hour.

A winter weather advisory remains in effect for the Fargo-Moorhead area until 6 p.m.
