Edwin H. Holmen, 93, West Fargo, died Friday, January 1, 2010 in the Emmanuel Nursing Home, Detroit Lakes, Minn.
Mr. Holmen was born, March 13, 1916 at Horace, N.D., the son of Elmer and Alma (Nystrom) Holmen. He was raised and attended rural schools at Horace and then began farming with his father. He served in the U.S. Army during WW II. Following military service, Ed lived in Long Beach, Calif. and worked in a factory building military aircraft. He returned to Horace in 1959, where he farmed and did trenching. Later, he began house moving, which he did until 1975. He was also a land developer at Horace and owned rental properties. He married Lilice Flink (Jansen) in 1973. He retired in 1985 and they moved to West Fargo in 2002. They spent their winters in Mesa, Ariz. for 27 years.
He is survived by his wife, Lilice; two daughters, Constance Holmen, Horace, Deborah (Randy) Eaton, Colorado Springs, Colo.; five step-sons, David (Carolyn) Flink, Fargo, Dennis (Patty) Flink, Horace, Richard (Marilyn) Reep, Missoula, Mont., Michael (Jeri) Reep, Audubon, Minn., Gary Reep, Lolo, Mont.; five step-daughters, Virginia (Bob) Barber, Fargo, Nancy (Bernard) Fletcher, West Fargo, Deb (Gary) McDonald, West Fargo, Karen (Joe) Bonilla, Sunnyside, Wash., Virginia (Duane) Walker, Hoople, N.D.; 5 grandchildren, 27 step-grandchildren, 37 step-great-grandchildren and 2 step- great-great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Myrtle, Viola and Edna; two brothers, Otto and Garfield and one step-daughter, June Ann Zander.
Visitation will be January 6, 2010, from 5 to 7 p.m. in West Funeral Chapel, West Fargo.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, January 7, 2010 at 11 a.m. in the Horace Lutheran Church, Horace. Burial will be at Horace Lutheran Cemetery.
