Essentia Health is offering a series of flu shot blitzes in the Fargo-Moorhead area. Flu shots will be available for adults without an appointment at Essentia Health locations: South University Clinic: Friday, Sept. 28, from 1-4 p.m.; West Acres Clinic: Wednesday, Oct. 3, from noon to 8:30 p.m.; West Fargo Clinic: Thursday, Oct. 4, from 8 a.m. to noon; 32nd Avenue Clinic: Friday, Oct. 5, from 1-4 p.m.; and Moorhead Clinic: Tuesday, Oct. 9, from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that everyone over 6 months old get vaccinated. It's especially important for senior citizens, pregnant women and those who have compromised immune systems. While the Fargo-Moorhead flu shot blitzes are only for those ages 18 and older, parents can schedule an appointment for their children to receive the vaccine in their pediatrician's or family doctor's office.
Flu experts say getting your seasonal flu shot is the best way to help prevent you and your family from getting influenza. The flu season often peaks in January or February, but can start as early as October. That's why experts say it's important to get a seasonal flu shot as soon as the vaccine becomes available.
The cost of the flu shot is covered by Medicare Part B, Medicaid and most private insurance companies. The shot is offered at a special discounted price of $37 during the flu blitz days and times. It's a good idea for patients to wear short-sleeved or sleeveless clothing when they come for their immunization.
