Youngsters listen to and participate in educational games as they sit at computers Thursday, May 6, during the 4th annual Family Literacy Night held at the Lodoen Kindergarten Center that is always well-attended in its quest to 'encourage children to keep learning and stay safe,' carrying that concept into summer.'

The event serves to support parents and summer reading for their children, as well as promote summer safety, in the process utilizing various city departments, including police, ambulance, fire, parks and recreation, etc. This year the high school drama club, Packatahnas, cheerleaders and softball teams also participated in the hands-on activity with the students, who were also presented with two books each, one used and one new, as material for their summer reading efforts.
