FARGO - Seven North Dakota cites and surrounding areas have been placed under a travel alert by the North Dakota Department of Transportation.

The agency issued a travel alert for tonight and tomorrow due to high winds and blowing snow, which may reduce visibility.

Cities in the travel alert are: Fargo, Wahpeton, Valley City, Jamestown, Devil's Lake, Bismarck and Minot.

Highway 57 south of Devils Lake from the Junction of ND 20 to Fort Totten is temporarily closed until further notice.

Strong winds are creating waves that are washing water over the roadway and leaving debris, creating hazardous travel conditions. As temperatures drop overnight, the water on the roadway may freeze and create icy conditions. The condition of the road will be evaluated in the morning.

During a travel alert, conditions still allow motorists to travel, but they should be aware of rapidly changing conditions which could result in delays or road closures.

For road information, call 511 from any type of phone or go to the website www.dot.nd.gov.
