The incident was reported at 7:34 a.m. along Highway 34 in extreme southeastern Clay County, Sheriff Bill Bergquist said.

The men allegedly tried to break into the garage using a tire iron and apparently got scared off by the homeowner, who heard a noise outside, Bergquist said.

The homeowner saw a minivan fleeing the scene and called in the vehicle description to Clay County authorities. Deputies stopped the vehicle at county roads 11 and 18 northeast of Dilworth and arrested the suspects.

Norman Dale Knutson, 36, of West Fargo, and Andrew James Fee, 34, of Fargo, were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit burglary, possession of burglary tools, trespassing and criminal damage to property. They were taken to the Clay County Jail.

The case remains under investigation.
