Fifth-graders return to Aurora, Board decides 2014 boundaries
The West Fargo school board approved elementary configurations for the 2014-2015 school year to accommodate the expected growth in the southern part of town.
The board unanimously approved a modified plan presented by a community committee that met throughout the fall and winter to discuss future facility and boundary needs of the district.
Last year, the school district shifted all fifth graders from Aurora Elementary School to Liberty Middle School to help open classrooms for grades one through four, an option the district considered doing again next year.
Instead, the district decided on Monday night that Aurora will serve grades one through five in 2014-15 but some first graders may be housed at Osgood Kindergarten Center. Freedom Elementary will also house some kindergarten classes so students who are in the Freedom Elementary boundaries will begin their schooling as kindergartners at Freedom instead of the Osgood Kindergarten Center.
Independence Elementary School, which will house grades one through five will open its doors for the first time in the fall.
