Like a beacon in a storm --enough cannot be said about the good the local Salvation Army accomplishes.

Local individuals who have had to rely on them in a time of need or disaster realize that more than anyone.

That's why it is so uplifting to see people want to pitch in and help and contribute to the causes that they so willingly and adequately serve.

One of those is taking the lead as the distribution location for the Coats for Kids program that continues in Cass and Clay counties.

Contributions are presently being accept at a variety of locations for the drive that will be sourced at their Moorhead Distribution Center in mid-October (more information will be forthcoming at a later date) .

Toward that end, the need right now is for new or gently used winter coats for children and adults, winter boots, gloves, scarves, hats and snow pants. Check your closets and consider sharing some of these items you no longer use.

In West Fargo, the perfect drop off point this Saturday will be, believe it or not, the West Fest parade.

Parishioners at Lutheran Church of the Cross will be collecting winter items for the Salvation Amy on their "collection float" as they travel the parade route. Last year, they collected supplies for the local food banks and will do that again this year, also including the warm winter clothing.

So take along an extra bag. Fill it with food stuffs or clothing items and when the LLC float passes by help them succeed in their ambitious and admirable plan of helping both the Great Plains Food Bank and the Salvation Army.
