Fitness program launches at West Fargo elementary schools
Fitness Forward, a non-profit organization with a mission to "lead youth to live well," is kicking off its Drive 2 Fitness program this month in all seven of West Fargo's elementary schools.
The program introduces students to five behaviors that will help them to develop healthy habits: one hour of physical activity, less than one hour of television or video games, nine to 11 hours of sleep, eating five to nine fruits and vegetables, and drinking plenty of water instead of sugar-added beverages.
According to Fitness Forward, research has shown that adoption of these behaviors improves health and can help prevent obesity.
The Drive 2 Fitness program spans the school year with a new focus each month. November's theme - Get Up, Get Moving - emphasizes fun ways to be physically active.
