Florence Ornberg, 100, West Fargo, N.D. died peacefully in her home on Sunday morning, August 16, 2009. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Florence Elizabeth Johnson was born on June 6, 1909 in rural Harwood, N.D. to Erik and Lisa Marie (Hurteg) Johnson. She grew up and attended school in the area.  In 1963, she received her high school diploma from American School in Chicago, Ill. He died in July of 1971. Florence moved to her present home in West Fargo in 1973.

Florence enjoyed a simple life; doing needlework, reading cat mysteries by Lilian Jackson Brown, listening to broadcasts of the Red Hawks and Minnesota Twins baseball teams, having occasional Kentucky Fried Chicken dinner, seeing her red tulips bloom in the spring, and watching the birds and squirrels that visited her bird feeders. Most of all, she loved having family and friends call and come to visit. In recent years, she received loving care from Beverly Kirby and other caretakers in her home. She also received care in her final days from Hospice.

She had a great appreciation for her wonderful caring neighbors and nearby relatives who were always there to provide assistance and friendship.

She is survived by a son, LeRoy (Ruth) Ornberg of Ames, Iowa; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ed; daughter, Merna; son, Dennis; brothers, Fritzoff, Algot, Edward, William and Oscar; and sisters, Jennie, Mary and Della.
