The West Fargo Flyers are a club team associated with Unites States Swimming. This season, 10 swimmers qualified to compete at the Central Zone Swimming Championships.
The Central Zone Championships are meets that require athletes to achieve qualifying time standards to compete and include swimmers from North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Alaska, Indiana, Iowa, Oklahoma, Kansas, Lake Erie, Missouri Valley and Ozark.
Six swimmers represented Team North Dakota in the 14-under age division held in Topeka, Kan.
Brandon Olson swam in the 50 backstroke and 400 freestyle; Quentin Hogue swam in the 50 and 100 freestyle, and the 100 backstroke; Amanda St. Aubin competed in 50, 100, and 200 breaststroke; Andie Peterson swam the 50, 100, and 200 freestyle, the 50 and 100 breaststroke, and the 200 individual medley; Hallie Peterson swam the 50, 100, 200, and 400 freestyle events along with the 100 butterfly and 200 individual medley; and Brittany St. Aubin competed in six individual events, consisting of 50 freestyle, 50 and 100 breaststroke, 50 and 100 butterfly, and the 200 individual medley.
These athletes were also part of relay teams. Peterson was the top place finisher as a Central Zone Champion in the 50-meter breaststroke, and a fourth-place finisher in the 100 breaststroke.
Four swimmers represented the West Fargo Flyers and Team North Dakota in the 15-18 age division in Franklin, Ind.
Paige Weisz swam the 100 and 200 breaststroke and 100 butterfly events; Rachel Kranda swam 100 and 200 backstroke and 400 freestyle; Ethan Doll swam the 400, 800, and 1500 freestyle events, the 100 butterfly, and the 400 individual medley, placing sixth; and Danica Dutt swam in 50, 100, and 200 freestyle events, as well as the 100 and 200 butterfly, earning third place in both fly events.
The Central Zone Championships are one level of advanced competition athletes strive to qualify for in races throughout the year.
