Girls track first, boys fourth at EDC indoor meet
At the EDC indoor championships on Saturday, the West Fargo track teams ended their indoor season on a high note, as the girls finished first out of 10 teams with 124.5 points, and the boys team finished fourth with 79.3 points.
The girls had 10 top-three finishes on the day, including four first-place finishes. The boys, meanwhile, ended the day with five top-three finishes, twice in the top spot.
Leading the girls were Madison Urlaub and Jen Dufner, who were a part of the first-place 4x800 meter relay team — along with Alexis Young and Mattyson Barta — that finished in 10 minutes, 18.18 seconds.
Dufner finished second the 3,200-meter run with a time of 12:07.12, while Urlaub took third in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:29.84.Senior Amanda Levin continues to come back strong from a knee injury after taking first in the 400-meter dash in 1 minute, 0.89 seconds.Sophomore Kennedi Sand also picked up a victory for the Packers, finishing the 60-meter hurdles in 9.91 seconds.West Fargo’s other first-place finish came from shot putter Keely Walker, who threw the shot 36 feet, 4 inches.The girls’ 4x200 relay team — consisting of Urlaub, Nicole Heinen, Jaeden Metcalf and Bryce Langerud — were on the wrong end of a photo finish, taking second to Grand Forks Red River by just 0.14 seconds.The 4x400 team of Barta, Sand, Young and Metcalf also took second.The team also got third-place outings from Sara Wiederholt in the pole vault and Izzy Waite in the 60 meter hurdles.On the boys’ side, senior Daniel Asa was the team’s top contributor. He claimed the top spot in the long jump with a distance of 21 feet, 3.5 inches, and also earned two third-place finishes, running the 400-meter run in 53.38 seconds and the 60-meter hurdles in 8.85 seconds.Thrower Alex Talley was the boys’ only other first-place finisher, winning the shot put with a distance of 49 feet, 7.5 inches.Brandon Johnson finished third for the Packers in the high jump with a height of 5 feet, 10 inches.The Packers will face the Moorhead Spuds in an invitational at Concordia College on Friday. The event begins at 1 p.m.
