Former Osage resident Gladys A. Kangas, 86, of Frazee, died Sunday, December 15, 2007 under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley, at the Frazee Care Center in Frazee.
Gladys Adelia Galbrecht was born to William and Viola (Seichau) Galbrecht on July 24, 1921 in Evergreen Township, Becker County. She was baptized on Sept. 11, 1921 and confirmed on Aug. 4, 1935 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Toad Lake.
On Sept. 20, 1944 Gladys married Charlie Kangas at Zion Lutheran Church in Toad Lake. Their union was blessed with three daughters: Patricia, Susan and Robin. They farmed in Wolf Lake Township until Charlie's death in 1990. Gladys loved to sew, quilt and make rugs on her loom. She was an active member of Gethsemane Lutheran Church for most of her adult life.
Surviving Gladys are her sister, Irene Ziegler of Frazee; three daughters, Patricia Peterson of Bothell, Wash., Susan Kay of Seattle Wash., and Robin (David) Theisen of Rice, Minn.; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband Charlie; sister, Hazel; brothers, Norman, Vernon, Billy, Bobby and John; and her son-in-law, Howard Peterson.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19 at Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Snellman, with the Rev. Carlton Kangas and Rev. Larry Harvala officiating. Active casket bearers are Doug Ziegler, Roy Wehmas, Gordy Oswald, Josh Oswald, Ivan Kangas and Rodney Salman.
Honorary pallbearers are Evelyn Wehmas, Shirley Clements, Doris Harvala, Hazel Eskola, Helen Laine, Stella Kangas, Cindy Aho and Elsie Salman. Interment will be at Pickerel Lake Cemetery. Memorials are preferred sent to Hospice of the Red River Valley.
