Grace H. Cross, 88, Mapleton, died Sunday, April 27, 2008, in the Halstad, Minn., Living Center.
Grace Helen Forkert was born July, 4, 1919 at LaMoure, N.D., to Hector and Margaret (Tesch) Forkert. In 1919, she moved with her family to Wild Rice, N.D. and attended rural schools. She graduated from Fargo Central High School. On September 1, 1939, she married Wayne H. Cross at Elbow Lake, Minn. They lived on the Cross farmstead at Mapleton. For 23 years, they spent the winter months in south Texas. Mr. Cross died in 1994. Grace had resided at the Halstad Living Center for the past four years.
Grace was very active in the family farming operation and the family business, Wayne's Electric. She was also very active as a Deacon in her churches, first at Mapleton Presbyterian Church and later at First Presbyterian Church in Fargo. She was currently a member of Community Presbyterian Church, West Fargo.
Grace is survived by her daughter, Margaret Cross Brooks, El Paso, Texas; son, Eugene (Carol), West Fargo; four grandchildren, Traci (Will) White, El Paso, Texas, David Brooks, Lakeville, Minn., Jennifer (Gabe) Saude, Mapleton, and Jason Cross, Minneapolis, Minn.; six great grandchildren and one due in June.
She was preceded in death by her husband and a brother, Cyril Niccum.
Visitation will be held Thursday, May 1, from 5 to 7 p.m. in the West Funeral Home Chapel, West Fargo.
The Funeral will be held Friday, May 2, at 2 p.m., in the First Presbyterian Church, Fargo.
Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fargo.
