Groups encourage West Fargo youth to buckle up
A number of groups has teamed up to encourage West Fargo youth to buckle up. Monsanto, Stop-N-Go stores, Subway Sandwiches, and West Fargo Dairy Queen will sponsor activities to be implemented by the West Fargo Police Department and the Safe Communities Coalition of the Red River Valley.
Activities began Friday, May 14, with West Fargo officers distributing Stop-N-Go gift cards to students who were buckled up as they entered the West Fargo High School's parking lot. Activities will continue through June 6. They include rollover simulator demonstrations at the Sheyenne Ninth Grade Center on Tuesday, May 18, and distribution of incentives for students observed wearing a seat belt or using a child restraint.
The activities will compliment the nationwide Click It or Ticket seat belt enforcement campaign. West Fargo law enforcement officers will be out May 24 through June 6 as they focus on ticketing those who are not wearing a seat belt.
In 2009, there were 140 fatalities on North Dakota roadways. Sixty five percent of motor vehicle fatalities were due to not wearing their seat belt.
