Harwood celebrating Community Days

Harwood is rolling out a huge welcome mat and celebrating in a special way with their Community Day observance which will take place Friday and Saturday, Sept. 9 and 10.
Jam packed with a variety of fun, family oriented events for all age levels to enjoy and take in, the celebration will kick off on Friday night with a free movie for the youngsters at 6 p.m., "How to Train Your Dragon," presented by the Harwood Park Board. Other Friday night activities will include Cosmic Karoake at 9 p.m. and the all-new Cosmic Bingo from 10 to 11 p.m., at the Harwood American Legion; and Jenny and the Bennetones at Miller's Hideout from 9 p.m. to close.
Start your day Saturday with the Pancake Breakfast served from 7 to 10 a.m. by the Zion Lutheran Church Men's Club, at the Community Center. Also featured at the Community Center will be Bingo at 10 a.m., conducted by the Harwood Seniors Club.
The grand parade will begin at 11 a.m. Entries are still be sought and can be arranged by contacting Melissa Nudell. In the event of rain on Saturday, the parade will be rescheduled to Sunday at 1 p.m. Mobile concessions will be offered during the parade and there will be concessions available from 12:30 to 2 p.m., provided by St. William's Church.
Other Saturday activities include: a Car Show sponsored by Jet Way at the Harwood School Parking lot; a chain saw and wood carving demonstration/display by Dean Twedt and Dennis Domier; petting zoo by the Harwood Helpers 4-H Club and Face Painting by the Harwood Luther League; $500 jackpot bingo at the Harwood Legion, and an emergency display and demonstration, Harwood Fire and Rescue by Jet-Way, both at 12:30 p.m.; Life Flight at the Community Center field, Rock race (bring your own rock,) Harwood Luther League, Apple Pie Contest by Zion WELCA, and Salsa Contest at Harwood State Bank, all 1 p.m.; Legged Race/Gunny Sack Race, by the Harwood Park Board, 1 to 3 p.m.; Blind Golf Cart Race, Harwood Fire and Rescue, and Chicken Bingo, Harwood Community Center, both at 2 p.m.; Water Balloon Toss and Watermelon Feed, Harwood Park Board, 2:30 p.m.; Wheel Barrow Race, Harwood Luther League, 3 p.m.; and Bobber Race, St. William's Men's Club, 3:30 p.m.
A Pulled Pork dinner will be served from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Harwood Community Center, with tickets available at the door. The FM Golden Notes New Horizon Band will entertain from 5 to 6:30 p.m. and the Pie Auction by Zion WELCA will take place at 6:30 p.m.
A dance featuring Midnight Highway, Wild Oats, and Sundown will be the concluding event from 8 p.m. to midnight.
All the activities for the celebration will take place at the Community Center/Baseball Diamond area unless otherwise noted.
