Healing Touch Chiropractic spearheads 4th annual "Tools for Schools"
Since Healing Touch Chiropractic's first "Tools for Schools" drive 4 years ago, hundreds of notebooks, pencils, markers and more have made their way to the children of West Fargo. This year was no different as Healing Touch Chiropractic partnered with their practice members and the community to once again collect supplies for local schools. Their efforts ensure that teachers and students in need have the supplies necessary for a productive academic year.
Through their "Tools for Schools" drive, Healing Touch Chiropractic's practice members and staff collected new school supplies for elementary schools in the West Fargo District and also 'adopted' Tracy Aaker's class at the West Fargo High School. The Lighthouse Program is a structured study hall and was in need of scientific calculators and ball chairs. "The school supply drive will benefit 65 students in the Lighthouse Program. Now that students need 3 credits of math, more students need scientific calculators. The chairs have been on our wish list for 2 years. The goal is that students will stay more focused and involved while studying or doing homework," said Tracy Aaker, Lighthouse Program teacher. Students using ball chairs in classrooms have shown improved concentration, focus and relaxation which leads to greater effectiveness in school. The goal of this program was to ensure that every student was able to begin the school year with the supplies and positive outlook necessary to reach their full academic, physical and mental potential.
"Many children face multiple obstacles that hinder their academic performance," said Dr. Tiffany Johnson of Healing Touch Chiropractic. "Movement is essential for life and the balls are a staple item I recommend for all members of the family, whether at school or at work. Giving to the children is one way to fulfill our mission and I believe we can positively affect the health of our community just one child at a time."
The supplies were distributed on Monday, August 30, to prepare for the upcoming 2010-2011 year. Gary Clark, Principal of West Fargo High School added, "We're very thankful for the donation received from Healing Touch Chiropractic of ball chairs and calculators. The ball chairs are a "hit" with students and have helped them stay focused. The calculators are helpful for students working on their math assignments."
