Tom Petty is a true American artist..... His music is timeless.
Many who are fans of the multi-talented music icon already know this, while others will now have a firsthand opportunity to discover this for themselves as Free Fallin', the nation's premier tribute to Tom Petty, will play Friday, September 25, at 9:30 p.m., at Hooligan's, 3330 Sheyenne St., West Fargo.
Petty is a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, who is the frontman of Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers and was a founding member of the late 1980s super group The Traveling Wilburys and Mudcrutch. Influenced early on by Elvis Presley and the Beatles, he has recorded a number of hit singles with The Heartbreakers and also as a solo artist, many of which remain heavily played on adult contemporary and classic rock radio.
Likewise, his music, most notably his hits, have become increasingly popular among younger generations. He and his band celebrated their 30th anniversary in 2006 with a special tour, and on Feb. 3, 2008, Petty and his group preformed at the Super Bowl halftime show.
Free Fallin (the name of one of Petty's all-time hits) has been playing dates all across the Midwest for thousands of fans in some of the areas finest venues. The group continues its fantastic journey through the catalogue of Tom Petty's hits including songs from The Heartbreakers, The Traveling Wilburys and The Byrds. They bring with them the full Tom Petty experience, complete with the costumes and instrumentation that are synonymous with Tom Petty.
The lineup of musicians involved all chose this project for the love of Tom's music and the craftsmanship that went into the songwriting. Musicians in the band include Brian Evans, Karl Swartz, Dale Peterson, RT Moore, Russ Lund and Mark Larsen, who have all played in such well-known groups as Lamont Cranston, Hairball, Sonik Envy, Pearl Harbor and Altered Ego, just to name a few.
This one-time music event is open to the public, 21 years of age and older. There is a $5 cover charge.
