Horace Scout Troop participates in anniversary observance

The Horace Scout Troop 274 poses in Bismarck during the 100th Anniversary of Boys Scouting in America.

Troop 274 from Horace, along with about 2700 other people, recently attended the 100th Anniversary of Boy Scouting in America celebration held in Bismarck, June 4-6.

Scouts from the Northern Lights Council, North Dakota, Minnesota, South Dakota, and Montana, participated in a variety of events including: tours of the Capitol, demonstrations on the Merit Badge Midway, and a pinewood derby race over 300' long down the Capitol mall sidewalk. Troop 274 participated in the food drive and completed a service project.

Scouts were cordially welcomed by Gov. John Hoeven and Major General David Sprynczynatyk of the North Dakota National Guard. In addition, they were entertained by an impersonation of Lord Baden Powell and Teddy Roosevelt, Giovanni the magician, and an amazing laser light show on the Capitol mall.  All made for a memorable centennial celebration.  This event marked the first time, the Capitol grounds committee has granted permission for scouts to camp on the grounds.
