The food collected from the Fargo-Moorhead area that day totaled more than 17,000 pounds. Of that, 8,271 pounds came from the Horace and West Fargo areas.

The food drive is a yearly event conducted by local Cub Scout Packs and Boy Scout Troops, and benefiting local food pantries.

SunMart of West Fargo provided space for this year's collection site. West Fargo's Caterpillar Remanufacturing Company supplied the truck tractor and driver to transport the collected food to the Fargo Food Pantry.

Jason Jacobs, of Caterpillar, said he was happy the company could help out.

"It's Caterpillar's intent to support the communities where we have a presence," he said.

The Scouts and participating family members were treated to pop, hot dogs and chips following the event, supplies of which were provided by Holsum Bread, West Fargo Sunmart and Judy Millar, West Fargo.
