Jerry Q. Fontaine, 69, West Fargo, died on Monday, March 1, 2010 at his home surrounded by his family and under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Jerry Quentin Fontaine was born on February 4, 1941 at Grand Forks, N.D. to Albert and Evelyn (Fillion) Fontaine. He grew up in Grand Forks and attended St. Michael's grade school and graduated from St. James High School there. On November 18, 1961, Jerry married Cheryl M. Evans in Grand Forks. They made their home in Grand Forks where he owned and operated Fontaine Construction. In 1990, they moved to Maple Lake near Mentor, Minn. where he co-owned JR Construction with his son Jerry. He retired due to health issues and later moved to West Fargo in 2007. Jerry was an avid golfer and enjoyed the outdoors. His family and grandchildren were of the utmost importance. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Grand Forks.
He is survived by his wife, Cheryl, West Fargo; three children, Jeffrey P. Fontaine, Joan Marie (Michael) Close, Simpsonville, S.C., Jerry A. Fontaine, West Fargo; four grandchildren, Kathleen Close, Molly Close, Tyler Fontaine, Maeghan Fontaine; two sisters, Jean Williams, Fargo and Judy Cummings, Grand Forks; one niece and a number of nephews.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Leonel Fontaine.
Visitation and a memorial service were held Friday, March 5, 2010 at the West Funeral Home Chapel, West Fargo.
